2009 is looking good

I got an email from my Uncle Donald looking forward to what a wonderful year 2009 is going to be:

Things look good for this new year: Immediately after his inauguration, Obama will balance the budget, revive the economy, solve the real estate problem, solve the auto industry problem, solve our gas/alternative energy problem, stop the fires and mudslides in California, ban hurricanes and tornadoes, stop identity theft, reverse global warming, find Osama, solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, get rid of corruption in government and achieve world peace. Then on the 7th day, He will rest.

Green Trend

How much of what is now called “green” really is?

Dave was thinking of writing a blog about how appalled he was by the number of those little plastic food-sample cups we go through in American food stores every weekend as grocers try to entice us into buying $15.99-a-pound cheese or $28-a-pound  deli herbed-roast-beef .  Though it sounds noble and Dave seems almost “green,” it was really just based on the fact that he and I alone had approximately 17 empty little containers in our cart after a half hour in Target.

That is probably more of an indictment against us than against the state of plastic-sample-cup use across America.

We did find a nice cheese in our price-range with a coupon…Jeanie

NOTE TO SELF: Skip lunch before Target next time.

Wise Men Found Him

Today is the Christian observance of Epiphany – sometimes called “Little Christmas” – celebrating the visit of the Magi to Baby Jesus.

Epiphany is also used to express a sudden realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something amazing (like grace, or God’s love toward us, for instance).

I was alone in my bedroom at the age of almost-5 when I asked Christ into my heart (very sincerely and with tears, no less).  There was no one there to record the moment, though I was blessed with godly parents who discipled me to grow in the grace and admonition of the Lord.

So for me, Epiphany is a good day to remember and celebrate and light the last of the Christmas candles and plug in the lone tree’s lights one final time before the final packing away (all is gone now save the tree of my faith).  It is a good day to say:

I found Him!  My Savior, the Lover of my soul.  Light of the world came to live in me.

What an epiphany!  What a realization!

The Devil Doesn’t Get My Days

The devil may wear Prada, but the devil don’t get my days.

“…that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land…”  Deuteronomy 11.21

Seven times a day I praise You for Your righteous laws.”  Psalm 119.164

Psalm 31.15 “…My times are in Your hands…”

“The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days.”  Deuteronomy 33.25

“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.  As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”  Joshua 1.5

“In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.”  Psalm 37.19

“Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”  Psalm 90.12

“All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”  Psalm 139.16b
