While in Maui, I found out that my friend Carol Ann (http://cakboliv.wordpress.com/), an extremely hip woman who has over 6000 songs on her I-Pod, has no Partridge Family songs on there. Not one. I was aghast at this discovery, so it got me to thinking.
If you were already super cool in the early 70's, I know you didn't give these bubble-gum pop songs a second look, but if you weren't yet (I was a kid, I tell you- a mere child), maybe you listened to the Partridge Family and can affirm my position that they deserve their place in American music…maybe not much of a place, but a place. And if you have never heard them, fear not, I have compiled a list of my very favorite Partridge Family songs here:
1. I heard David Cassidy was still making hearts go pitter patter with this song in Vegas nightclubs to the over 40 crowd just a couple of years ago! But later, I do remember other songs that I was fond of: (Jeanie's the one good with dates and times so if I'm off by a few years, forgive me, these are just songs that I remember and love, from the radio) In no particular order… The Theme from S.W.A.T A 5th of Beethoven New Kid in Town The Theme from Starsky and Hutch Does anybody remember that song about "Bonnie and Clyde"? I love that, secretly… "Bonnie and Clyde, they lived their lives together, they were the devil's children…" The Dueling Banjos of Deliverance Hotel California Does anyone remember that song from Batman (I'm talkin' Adam West and Burt Ward Batman) some girl Catwoman cronie sang to Robin? Have no idea who she was, doesn't matter. For some reason, I recorded it on my reel-to-reel tape player (our version of DVR) I think it was called: "California Nights"? I was in love with California back then, maybe because we vacationed there to see my grandpa every summer. I still remember most of the words… Don't remember what class I taught two weeks ago, but I do remember… "Along the sands, let's walk the shore together now, yes hand in hand, it's gonna be fair weather now, when the stars come out - pop! meet you in the sky, Ooohhh California nights, with the breeze blowin in, let the lovin begin…" sorry that's all I remember. I don't think I knew what "lovin" was… Ask Jeanie about her encounter with Batman and Catwoman… enough said. I also remember Bobby Sherman. Weren't there any girl bubble gum stars back then??? I don't remember until high school and people like Linda Ronstadt but that was not bubble gum. It seems they were all guys???? Except for Marcia Brady, but she couldn't sing (still can't) I think it was that football to the nose thing…
